Read about PFC Student Exchange Programs
The Student Exchange Program is a cornerstone of the Paul Farmer Collaborative, fostering cross-cultural learning, global solidarity, and the next generation of health equity leaders. Inspired by Dr. Paul Farmer’s legacy of accompaniment and service, the exchange is designed to create transformative educational experiences between students from partner institutions.
Our Student Exchange Program offers students the opportunity to engage deeply in global health work through immersive academic and field-based experiences. The program emphasizes equitable partnership, mutual learning, and a commitment to social justice.
Participants in the exchange engage in:
Cross-institutional study at partner universities
Collaborative research and clinical experiences in community health, infectious disease, and social medicine
Cultural exchange activities that deepen understanding of context and build lifelong connections
Rooted in Dr. Farmer’s ethos of “preferential option for the poor,” the program is not a one-way exchange. We emphasize reciprocity and equity, ensuring that students from low- and middle-income countries have equal access to resources, mentorship, and academic opportunities.
Dr. Farmer believed that education should serve humanity and that young people have a critical role to play in dismantling global health inequities. This exchange program puts that vision into action, equipping students to work together across borders in pursuit of a more just and healthy world.
